The Summer Beauty Awards

Hello there! Long time no, post. These past few weeks have been filled with work, so much travel, and all the crazy little bits of life that blogging had to go on the back burner. But with the official start to summer, I figured now was the best time to jump back in. So when AOL's Lifestyle Collective reached out and asked if I wanted to be a part of their Summer Beauty Awards, I couldn't say no. For the past few weeks I've been testing these products out to be able to give you all the down low and let you know what's the top of the top and what quite didn't make my cut...

Goldwell Kerasilk Control Rich Protective Oil : This product got the highest score of all seeing as it truly did what it's labeled to do. It gives intense shine, helps protect against heat (something my bleached ends definitely need), and creates a frizz free look post shower/styling. I apply this to my hair while damp and then proceed to style.

Fekkai Soleil Beach Waves Spray : Beachy/salt sprays are one of the trickier products to create in my opinion. They can quickly become sticky, weigh hair down, and leave a less than desired look. This product got a mid range score - the scent is pretty strong for me and the formula can easily go sticky if too much is used, but it definitely gives nice volume to the hair.

Bondi Sands Liquid Gold : This product was so close to getting a perfect five, but it had a few little flaws. Since the oil goes on colorless it makes it hard to see where you have applied product - meaning that it is easy to become a streaky mess if you aren't careful. Trying to correct a mess like that isn't easy either. So for this item, buffing in thoroughly is key. The scent is coconut, which is ehh for me but still beachy and better than tanning scent. The best part of this product is the nice natural tan and the fact that it doesn't transfer.

By Terry Hydra Balm Fill & Plump Lipstick : This product has two claims - to fill and plump. One claim is definitely true, the other not so much. The formula is hydrating, creamy, and without a doubt fills in the fine lines on your lips. Plumping, wasn't exactly it's strength. Since this is a hydrating, creamy, and more sheer formula reapplication throughout the day is needed. So if you are someone who wants their color to last, this one might not be for you.

Flower Style Eyes Liquid Liner "Espresso Ink" : The lowest marked item on my list due to the fact that I'm definitely an eyeliner snob hands down. While the brush on this was nice, flexible, thin, and allowed for precision the formula was lacking. I found the liner to be watery, patchy, and would transfer. Since I have this in the brown shade only, I can't speak for the other colors and it could simply be something to do with the brown formula.

Lauren B Beauty Nail Polish "My Private Cabana" : This is a 5-Free formula so, positives for that! The color is opaque and goes on without too much issue. However, I'm not a fan of the brush - I prefer the larger style brushes that come with OPI polishes. I find they are easier to use. I also noticed this chipped very easily - a strong topcoat is definitely recommended. The color however is so perfect for summer!

Living Proof Restore Instant Protection : This did a pretty decent job of protecting the hair against heat, however the scent is just no good. It's very chemical like and not something I want on my hair (especially since hair holds scent). This product can also feel heavy on the hair as well.

Philip B Maui Wowie Beach Waves : This beach spray was much more lightweight and easier to work with than the Fekkai one. It went in nicely and created volume.
