Whenever I head home to Richmond one of my first stops is usually Ulta - much to my wallet's dismay. Since D.C. doesn't have an Ulta and my favorite brow artist works at the Benefit counter it usually becomes a rather splurgey trip. I love wandering through the long aisles and seeing what hard to come across nail shades they have in stock. This time around I had a few items on my list (thanks to Claire) so I was extra excited to make a quick stop in the other weekend.
bareMinerals Complexion Rescue : This item has been super hyped up in the blogging world and all of it's descriptions aligned with exactly what I look for in a base product. Lightweight, flawless coverage, good SPF, and a dewy finish. Overall the finish and formula is very pretty, however it doesn't seem to have the long-lasting power that my beloved Chanel CC Cream has. I find it transferring and "melting" throughout the day. I will say though - I have only been testing this on absurdly hot days (since DC is seeing a heat-wave reminiscent of late August in mid June). So I'm hoping once it cools I can find myself using this one a bit more. Since my Chanel CC Cream tends to stay put even on those 97 degree days I'll be sticking to it for a while.
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner : The one token Sephora buy in this post. Since my favorite Tom Ford liner is coming to it's end days, I snagged this after hearing Claire and Amelia rave about it. Upon first use I was a little let down. It was a bit streaky and not as jet black as I was used to...it also smeared a bit. I was super bummed because I love the brush - it's the most precise thing I've ever seen! I was wondering if maybe I got a bad tube and thought about swapping it out. However, after a few uses it began providing a much more pigmented finish that I am way more pleased with. Pros - the lid snaps shut so no drying out and the tip is so precise so it's easy to get a great cat flick. Cons - not quite as "tattoo" as I was hoping, my Tom Ford still wins for the longest lasting finish.
OPI 'Do You Take Lei Away' : I am on a major nude nail kick. I've bought a few shades recently but this one has to be my favorite. Its just that perfect neutral, neutral. It's not too pink or too grey. I also have been loving OPI lately (more than Essie), I'm finding the wider brush makes application super easy and quick.
It Cosmetics 'Bye, Bye Under Eye' : One that I am still on the fence about...I picked this up after hearing a co-worker rave about it since my NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer is almost out. I absolutely love the immediate finish this gives when applied in the morning however it tends to not wear as well throughout the day sadly. Again - it could be related to this ridiculous heat but still my NARS one seems to sit better. If any of you have any tips for better application of this guy, please let me know! Also, I'm thinking of scooping up the Tarte CC Under Eye concealer to try as well. Do any of you use that one?
Too Faced 'Primed & Poreless' : Another Claire influenced purchase! I have to be careful with powders since they can settle into my drier skin a bit oddly, but I've been liking this a lot for these hot sticky days. I tend to just dust a bit on my t-zone area to help things last a bit longer and not melt off.
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush 'Exposed' : Probably my favorite purchase out of the bunch! This has been on my list for months and I just never picked it up for some reason. You know those products that are continuously on your list, you pick them up, put them back, and then just never buy them and instead by six other items? Well that was this for me and I am so happy to finally have this blush. It is a gorgeous rosy/neutral shade that goes with a bunch of looks. The finish is really pretty and can be built up really nicely.
Have you done any beauty buying lately? What have you been scooping up and loving? Let me know in the comments!
