Drugstore Mascara | Maybelline Colossal Choatic vs L'Oreal Miss Manga Rock

Recently two very similar mascaras have released - both promising thick, "clumpy"/spidery, wet, jet black lashes. I decided to give them both a test and see what results they gave. One of them definitely came out a winner in my book, being a total standout. The other...seemed a bit like my ordinary mascaras.

To start out I'll give you guys a bit of background about my lashes. I have pretty long, but rather straight lashes. They don't hold a curl too well and lack thickness. When testing these mascaras I applied both around the same time of day and curled my lashes each time. I also wore both for the same amount of time during the day.

L'Oreal Miss Manga "Rock" : Hands down the winner for me. While I was not a fan of the original Miss Manga, the "Rock" version totally blew me away. It created super black, wet-looking, long lashes that held a curl and gave me that spidery look as promised. This is down to a mixture of the formula along with the brush. It's smaller and has a comb-like feature allowing it to really get into the root of the lashes. What sealed the deal for me was how it kept my lashes uber curled for the entire day. It also didn't transfer or leave smudges under my eyes like a lot of mascaras do. I've also received a lot of compliments while sporting this one - many people asking if I'm wearing fake eyelashes.

Maybelline The Colossal "Chaotic" Lash : For me this mascara was good, but gave less of an impact than it's L'Oreal counter-part. While it definitely thickened my lashes it didn't give me that super black, wet look I was wanting. My lashes also began drooping later that morning - it just didn't hold the curl for me quite as well. I also noticed a bit of smudging and transferring throughout the day as well.

Have any of you used either of these mascaras? Which one did you love and are you on board with the spidery, chaotic lashes?

  1. Miss Manga Rock sounds like a mascara that I would like. The problem that I have with most mascaras is that they smudge on me so if that one doesn't smudge I'll deff have to try it :)

  2. Mascaras tend to smudge so much on my lower lash line but this one does a good job of not budging too much!
The best part is how it holds a curl!

  5. I bought the original when it came out and it just didn't do it for me! I used it for a bit and then tossed it aside. The Rock version is definitely an upgrade in my opinion!

  6. The Maybelline is good - just didn't give the wow factor that the L'Oreal did for me! Let me know if you try either and how they do for you!

  8. I definitely want to try the Miss Manga Rock mascara! I've always used the L'Oreal butterfly as a second mascara to give more oomph to my lashes but this one looks like it will give better volume!

  9. It definitely does! It's formula is just so good. I wore it yesterday (and it was like 100 degrees here today) and it had such good lasting power!
