When The Skies Are Grey...The Red Tones Come Out To Play

About this time every year I start craving orangey/red tones in full force. For those of you who know me well (or have followed my blog for a long time) will know that my closet is filled with a ton of neutrals and my nail polish choice ninety-nine percent of the time is dark and vampy. All of that said it must have something to do with the grey skies and cold temperatures that gets me craving shades of red/orange.

Over time I have built up a little collection of polishes and lip colors that work seamlessly together and compliment my neutral wardrobe. There is something about the idea of red/orange lips and matching nails, with a black and white striped top that feels incredibly Parisian (cliché...I know) and I love it.

I often have a hard time finding reds that work with my complexion (especially on my hands), but have discovered that those with orange bases tend to work best. Below are some of my favorites at all different price points.

Also, do tell...what is your go-to color to help keep winter bright and cheerful?

  3. I agree it always seems like my nail color is bipolar because in the winter I crave bright colors or pastels and in the spring/summer I crave darker colors . My fave lip color is Maybelline's #515 Coral Crush it's the perfect bright lip color and compliments my skin tone perfectly .

  5. I swear by bright red all year round. I think it stems from my first Kate Spade bag, a piece I sported for 365 days straight. So to me, Red is absolutely a neutral, and an essential for anyone's closet.

    Keep rocking the red hots!

  6. Love this color on you! I tend to go for a more burgundy red on the daily and a deep red if I want a pop of color - but any red always tends to make a statement.

  9. Red has always been my favorite nail color - it started for me in middle school, when I used to have really long nails and would paint them a deep red berry color. I even painted my nails so that when I played softball, my hands would look fancy! *Shame*.

Essie's "Clambake" will forever be my favorite orangey red. It is gorgeous at any time of year. :)

    1. I love it!! Definitely no shame in having fancy hands! Clambake is on my list to find next along with Essie's Fifth Avenue. I'm so sad though because Target and Ulta never have either when I pop in :(
