Happy Christmas week everyone! I have a couple more posts planned out for 2014 and felt that a festive recipe was the best way to kick start this week. My family has a tradition that when we decorate the tree (which we did a few weeks ago) we drink lots of hot chocolate and watch White Christmas. Last year I decided to try my hand at making homemade hot chocolate and thought it would be the perfect treat to share this week.
I've made this a couple of times now this season and plan to make it a few more before the holidays are officially over. It's super easy and definitely delicious.
I use my mug to measure out how much milk I'll need and then pour that into a sauce pan on the stove. I prefer to use whole milk for this drink (even though I usually drink Almond - which would work well too although be a bit sweeter).
Before heating the milk I break up two ounces of 70% dark chocolate.
As the milk heats on high I add one tablespoon of sugar and the chocolate chunks to the pan.
I stir all together until the chocolate melts fully and everything is warm. I then pour the drink into my mug (I love this one from Paper Source for the holidays) and top with giant marshmallows.
If you like the taste of peppermint a candy cane can add a touch of flavor to your drink.
What is your festive go-to drink of the season? Do you love to indulge in decadent hot chocolate or do you prefer something less sweet? Let me know in the comments below!
