Beauty Haul | Laura Mercier

The other weekend when Ashlyn & I attended the Nordstrom Beauty Trends Show where we had the pleasure of getting pampered and made over by members of the Laura Mercier team. It was such a fun morning, and as you all know I love nothing more than new make up products so I couldn't wait to scoop up some of their suggestions that day. What I love most about Laura's products are her attention to the little details and of course her ideal of the "flawless face". I have been a massive fan of her Secret Concealer for years now and swear by it...but it was the only product of hers that I used. The team at Nordstroms was so knowledge about and left me with some fantastic buys. Below are the items I got and a little about what they do.

1] Secret Concealer : This little pot might as well be a pot of gold. I haven't found a better product for dark under eye circles yet. I also use it on flared up spots as well.
2] Flawless Skin Mega Moisture Créme : I learned that my skin is actually rather dry and in need of extra moisture. [Especially after this winter...that won't seem to end. Plus the fact that I walk everywhere and I am exposed to the elements.] This cream is super hydrating and feels like heaven. I wish it was a full body moisturizer.
3] Hydrating Primer : This product simultaneously with the moisturizer and the foundation. [I use the cream, then this primer, then apply my foundation/concealer.] I haven't really dabbled in primers before, but I do love this product. It gives a nice base to my makeup and it helps to achieve that "dewy skin" look.
4] Foundation : It is now a toss up between this foundation and my beloved MakeUp Forever HD Foundation. Both are fantastic. The only plus I feel with this one is the idea of keeping all of my base, face products within one line.
5] Bronzer : This little guy was a freebie thrown in and I quite like it. It is different from my favorite NARS Laguna in the fact that it doesn't have any highlighter or shimmer to it. I like to mix the two and use them both now. The Laura Mercier for more contoured look and the NARS for a little over all color.

Have any of you tried Laura Mercier products? What do you swear by?

Many thanks to Nordstrom Pentagon City for inviting me & setting everything up.

Happy Weekend // Flower Friday

Happy Friday everyone! I snagged some hydrangeas for the first time in ages and had forgotten just how lovely they look when styled on my coffee table. I'm also loving so many of the magazine covers that have been coming out this month [lots of white & pretty details].

This evening I plan on running  a few errands and then coming home and doing nothing. No work, no blog things, no emails. I haven't done that in a while so it will be a nice little break.

What are your plans for this evening, or for the weekend in general?

Iced Caramel Macchiato at Home

I have been on a Starbucks caramel macchiato kick for a while now and since they aren't the most budget friendly thing to be buying on a weekly basis I decided to try my hand at making my own. Which ultimately ended up being slightly healthier [the things I convince myself of...] due to the fact that I keep almond milk in the house instead of regular milk.

You'll Need :
1] Five ounces of milk [I prefer almond milk]
2] Five ounces of dark blend coffee [or two shots of espresso if you have access to it]
3] Two ounces of simple syrup with vanilla added*
4] Caramel for topping
5] Ice

I let my coffee chill for about half an hour in the fridge and then I began mixing. I poured the simple syrup over my ice for the first layer, I then added in the milk, following that with the coffee. After all the liquids were added I then drizzled caramel sauce over top.

*For the simple syrup simple boil water and sugar together on the stove once the mixture is boiling I reduce heat and then add in a few drops of vanilla extract.

What is your favorite Starbucks drink? Have you made any at home?

Happy Wednesday readers! It has been a busy work week but also a week full of fun events. I find that the busiest weeks are sometimes the most productive & to go along with that idea I'm sharing some of my favorite things from off my desk.

1] Ashlyn found this gold stapler [from the Nate Berkus line] at Target and I couldn't say no when she offered to scoop one up for me. I mean...it's gold. It makes me so happy every time I look over at my desk.
2] How fun are these bright teal-blue paper clips? They are from the dollar section at Target; I swear that section is going to eat up all my money because my thoughts go along the line of..."Oh, only a dollar?! Sure, I'll get five!"
3] Also in the dollar section I found this black & white twine. It is impossible to find twine that cheap and it was black and white.
4] Lastly, are these adorable little gift boxes [also found at Target] with hearts on them. I'm a sucker for gift wrapping supplies so in my cart they went as well.

Basically, this post is a Currently Loving everything in Target post...but who doesn't?

What are you currently loving this week? Do you have a hard time saying no to the Target dollar section as well?

OOTD : Living On The [Scalloped] Edge

LOFT Scalloped Skirt // LOFT Polka Dot Sweatshirt // J.Crew Necklace [SIMILAR] // Kate Spade NY Watch // Zara Heels [SIMILAR] // Enit Fold-Over Clutch c/o

Saturday morning Ashlyn & I headed out bright and early to the Nordstrom's Spring Beauty Trends Show and the weather couldn't have been more perfect to actually wear some of my new spring pieces. [Unfortunately, that warm weather didn't last long as today has snow falling; but moving on...] After we had our makeup done by the fantastic girls over at the Laura Mercier counter [next week I will be sharing the awesome tips and products I learned about] we decided to snap some shots of our looks.

I was lucky enough to snag the very last of this scalloped skirt in my LOFT store and was excited to pair it with this super soft & comfy polka dot sweatshirt. Topping the look off I threw on my favorite J.Crew necklace, my tried & true Zara heels, and I grabbed my Enit clutch - which I have been pairing with everything lately.

ps : No photo shoot is complete unless I make ridiculous faces at Ashlyn... hence the last photo.

Weekend Re-Cap + Nordstrom's Spring Beauty Trends Show

This past weekend was absolutely one of the best ones I've had in ages. Ashlyn & I were very lucky to be able to attended the Nordstrom Spring Beauty Trends Show bright and early Saturday morning. It was a day of fashion, beauty, and a little pampering. [Tomorrow I will be sharing my look from the day & next week I'll be posting on the awesome tips and products I learned about with the fantastic team from Laura Mercier - so stay tuned!]

Sunday was filled with catching up on blog things & email, skimming through a few magazines, and a delicious brunch with Rosa & Ashlyn over at NoPa Kitchen + Bar in Chinatown. The food was incredible, the champagne flowed, and the service was fantastic. Due to waiting a little longer than normal for Rosa's donuts we ended up with a complimentary second set. Ashlyn & I were happy campers with those.

How did you spend your weekend? Was it a full one or more relaxed?

Happy Weekend

This has been one busy week but it is ending on such a high note! Last night I convinced my fabulous co-worker into getting manicures and champagne with me. It was still warm and sunny when we left the office and a fresh, light manicure seemed the best way to welcome the first day of spring. This weekend is going to be filled with some really exciting events, a fun brunch date, and hopefully lots of new recipes to try for posts. I'm excited too that the warm weather is hanging around for at least a few days and fingers crossed it won't drop back down like they claim!

What are your weekend plans? Are you laying low and relaxing or do you have lots planned?

Drug Store Beauty Haul

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation [Vanilla] // Revlon Photoready BB Cream [Light/Medium] //
Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Mischievous

Last week I sadly ran out of my beloved Makeup Forever foundation & since Sephora isn't the most conveniently located store I decided to grab a few drug store finds to hold me over for a bit. Standing in the beauty section at Target I knew just who to turn to for some good advice. Zoella (or Zoe) is one of my favorite YouTuber's and I'm always so impressed with her makeup skills; I decided to grab a few items from her recent beauty posts. I also decided it was a great opportunity to finally try a BB cream without spending tons of money on one. I really like the texture of this Revlon option as well as the slight tint it gives my skin. The Nearly Naked is quite a change from my HD Foundation. It is much more liquid-like and a little more challenging to apply evenly. However, it does a nice job for it's price point. The lip color was of course a splurge [based on the one Zoe is wearing in her video] and I couldn't be happier with it. A little swipe gives a nice peachy tint, lots of layers gives a bright punch.

What drug store beauty items are on your must-have list? I'm always curious about products other people use!

Currently Loving

Well, this is one heck of a short currently loving post. I'm sort of cringing at myself as I write this one. I always challenge myself to have at least four things to post about on Wednesday's "Currently Loving" segment. Reality is though, some weeks are just longer/more stressful than others and one currently loving image is better than no currently loving image. The cold weather has been a major bummer these past few days so I figured the only cure was to put on a super spring-like mani color. Tart Deco definitely fit the bill and I'm quite happy I scooped it up a few weeks ago. I'm also loving the light and airy feel of the Loft sweater I am sporting in the shot. It's appropriate for the current weather without being to heavy and wintery.

What all are you currently loving? Is your week a crazy one as well?

OOTD : Lavender Fields

Madewell Top // Loft Lean Boyfriend Jeans // Gap Flats [Similar] //
Marc by Marc Jacobs Clutch [Similar] // Kate Spade New York Watch

A couple weeks ago Ashlyn hosted a shopping event at Madewell and after stumbling upon this lavender silk top I just couldn't put it up. It is so lightweight and the perfect color for spring. [Just a few shades lighter than the current pantone color.] I knew that I wanted to keep my look casual [since the top is 100% silk] so I paired it with my trusty boyfriend jeans and some fun leopard details. Pre-snow storm that just hit, I was actually able to sport this entire look sans jacket. Here's to hoping warmer weather is near and I'll be able to get a lot more use out of my new top!

Homemade Shamrock Shake

There is nothing I love more about March than the debut of the shamrock shake. I've made my love for mint pretty clear these past few weeks so since I already had all of the ingredients (minus some food coloring) I decided to whip up my own version.

You'll need :
1] Vanilla ice cream [I used vanilla bean because that is my personal preference.]
2] Milk [I prefer almond milk.]
3] Mint extract
4] Green food coloring
5] Whipped cream

Combine ice cream with about one forth a cup of milk and mix together in a blender, then add about four drops of mint extract and 4 drops of food coloring and blend again. Top with whip cream.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy Weekend // Flower Friday

Happy Friday readers! This week [minus Thursday] has been such a weather treat that I couldn't resist scooping up a bunch of bright pink tulips for the house. They started opening up and look so pretty sitting on my coffee table. I think next up are a bunch of white hydrangeas [that is until the peonies start popping up!]

This weekend I'm excited to be spending some time with my family, catching up on some sleep lost with the daylights saving, and as always working on blog post :)

What do you have planned this weekend?

Lemon + Lime Sangria

When I started thinking about a post for this week I wanted it to be slightly St. Patrick's day themed [hence all the green] but not so set on the holiday that it wouldn't be appropriate for other times in the year. I settled on this lemon + lime [+ a little extra] sangria. Its light, refreshing, bubbly, and a fun warm weather take on your standard sangria. The plus side...it can be made non-alcoholic and still look just as pretty and taste just as good!

You'll Need [for one batch] :
1] Two bottles of processo [or sparkling wine]
2] Two ounces of Triple Sec
3] Club soda
4] One green apple diced
5] One lemon sliced
6] One lime sliced
7] One cucumber sliced

Combine all ingredients, top with club soda, and let it chill for about half an hour.

To make the non-alcoholic version simply use only club soda for a refereshing and bubbly flavored water.
