Happy Weekend

So I'm starting to think that Friday's post should be officially changed to "Flower Friday" seeing as my flower addiction is getting a little out of hand. For those of you who follow along you know I usually prefer light pink or white arrangements; but this week I couldn't resist this bright colored mixture. It has changed up my coffee table quite a bit and definitely adds lots of cheer! Hope all of you have a great start to this long holiday weekend and enjoy the last few days of summer!

Smoothie Simplicity

After moving into my new place in the city I ended up downsizing my kitchen supplies quite a bit. When I stumbled upon this tiny little blender with a price point thats impossibly good I couldn't help but pick one up. It fits perfectly within my kitchen and allows me to make smoothies and soups again! Since buying it I've been on a smoothie kick and thought I would share my favorite (and simplest) recipe.

This makes a single 14 oz serving.

Ingredients:
(1) Low fat vanilla yogurt [I prefer Whole Food's organic option]
(2) 1 whole banana [I love having more banana flavor to mine so modify as needed]
(3) 3 medium sized strawberries
(4) A few pieces of ice [I prefer mine with less ice and more yogurt]
(5) A splash of milk [I use 2%]

Slice up your fruit and blend together all ingredients!

"A Vogue Idea"

{ My attempt to follow in the steps of Anna Wintour and post a #voguestagram - the new Instagram fad }

With the September issues on the stands, I can say that it is officially my favorite time of year. There is something so wonderful and refreshing about September and fall in general. While I'm not in school anymore I still get excited about splurging on new pieces for the new season and anxiously await the arrival of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, (and my missing Elle magazine - my mailman is holding it hostage). Along with my usual round up, I also picked up Marie Claire and Lucky this year as well. Some of my favorite fall trends include navy + grey as the new neutral and the abundance of leather. (With Vogue reaching the sky high number of 902 pages there is something for everyone!) Check back in tomorrow for a "Currently Craving" installment of some of the items I'm dying to get my hands on for fall!

Goin' to Carolina in My Mind

 { So many little jellies, they scattered the shore like little diamonds }

Happy Monday everyone! So I'm sure all of you are getting tired of my vacation photos (I promise, this is the last post with photos from the beach!) Anyways, I was finally able to pull all the photos from my actual camera and go through them. These are a few of my favorites, they are so bright and summery. One last hurray before we launch into September next week :)

{ So much fun watching people surf & skimboard }

Happy Weekend

{The foam was insane, I've never seen the ocean whip up such thick foam.}
It just lingered on the beach, sitting in the sand.

Happy Friday everyone! Above and below are a few shots from the end of last week's vacation. Unfortunately for the last four days of my trip the temperatures dropped to around 70 degrees with overcast/rainy/stormy skies and high winds. My whole group was pretty bummed. We made the best of it though, layering up in sweaters (who ever heard of sweaters in August?!) and trekked down to at least walk the beach each day. Lots of shopping and exploring some of the other areas occurred as well. All in all it was still incredibly relaxing and wonderful to be with family and friends. One other thing that occurred during this weather was the opportunity to see the ocean in a different light. Gone were the shimmery blue waters that allowed you to see to the bottom of the ocean. Replacing that was steely grey, dark blue water. It was rough and powerful. Sometimes I feel we often forget just how powerful nature is. It gave me the opportunity to see another very beautiful side to the sea. (And to take some very different from my usual; yet still beautiful photos.) I hope all of you can find some unusual beauty in things this weekend! Catch you all on Monday :)

Cool as a Cucumber

Lately everything I've been ordering when out at happy hour has included cucumber of some sort. I'm not a huge fan of cucumber on its own, but add it into a drink and I'm game! This drink was really simple to throw together and tastes delicious as well. Perk; the mocktail version is just as good :)

What you'll need:
(1) Cucumber
(2) Lemon
(3) Fresh Mint
(4) Club soda
(5) Vodka
(6) Sugar

Recipe:
(1) Cut your cucumber in half. Using one part peel and dice; for the other cut into rounds
(2) Place your diced cucumber and sugar into your shaker and muddle
(3) Once muddled add a handful of mint leaves and continue to muddle until you smell the mint
(4) Add ice, 1 part fresh squeezed lemon juice, 2 parts vodka
(5) Shake vigorously
(6) Strain into glass and top with club soda
(7) Garnish with your cucumber slices, mint leaves, and lemon wedges

 Happy Wednesday everyone! Here are a few things I'm currently loving as we savor the last days of summer and transition to fall.

{Navy nail polish - also mentioned here - with gold jewelry}

It's the one piece of clothing I've purchased from F21 that has held up so well!

{Starbucks Berry Hibiscus Refresher - a nice alternative to iced coffee}
I especially love the fresh berries they add to the drink

Splurge vs Steal

For the longest time I've been dying over these Jenni Kayne D'Orsay flats, but haven't had the courage to bite the bullet and pay the price point for them. I've been on the lookout for the perfect copy-cat and one day wandering through Nordstrom I stumbled upon the Chinese Laundry version I posted about here. I did a little research on them and immediately went back and scooped up a pair. I absolutely adore them and for the moment they are the absolute perfect solution. They come in just about every color imaginable as well; I'm also majorly crushing on this red pair. Another good option I found for an even cheaper price point are these Zara Vamp Flats. While their style is a little different than the Jenni Kayne's they are equally as elegant!

What "steal" purchases have you made recently? I'd love to hear your other great splurge/steal stories!

ps : Make sure you break the Chinese Laundry flats in, I made the mistake of walking five blocks to work in them on the first day and paid the price. That's where they definitely show their difference from the Jenni Kayne version!

Landscapes By the Sea

Last week I was incredibly fortunate to be able to spend time down by the ocean and relax. The pictures posted today are all shots from an excursion we took to one of the more remote islands near where we were vacationing. It was such a nice change of pace from the full beaches we'd been at the days before. We hunted for shells and I chased birds around trying to capture them in flight. [I'm sure I looked like a crazy person! I'm not even that fond of the seagulls; but I found capturing their flight very beautiful.] Hope you all had lovely weekends!
ps : The polish on my toes is Essie's Bouncer It's Me! my go-to summer blue; perfect for ocean get-aways

Summer Days Driftin' Away

Happy Monday everyone! So this week I'm on vacation (yippy!) but due to some technical issues I won't be able to post regularly. Very disappointing, I had some fun stuff planned for this week. I'll use this break from full internet as a good way to disconnect and recharge (you will still be able to catch me on Instagram though!) Hope you all have a great start to your week and I'll be returning to regularly postings next week after some much needed relaxation. xx

ps : Sorry if the quality of these photos is horrendous, iPhones are wonderful things but these small screens don't do much in the way of making sure resolution is good!

Happy Weekend

Happy happy Friday everyone! As I was in Whole Foods the other day, I noticed how pretty the tulip selection was and couldn't resist grabbing a bunch. I love that they are Virginia grown unlike a lot of the other flowers they display. Plus they are the only bunch that comes in brown paper. (I'm such a sucker for things like that.) They totally brightened up my apartment and my mood-isn't it funny how fresh flowers and plants can do that? I can't wait to enjoy them all weekend long. Hope you all have found something small to make you smile this week/weekend :)

Roasted Chicken with Balsamic Bell Peppers

Lately when grocery shopping, I find myself standing in front of all the colorful bell peppers and just can't help but buy one of each. Unfortunately on this last trip, Trader Joe's had sold out of red (my favorite) bell peppers. (How is that possible?!) So I settled for a yellow and an orange. I usually add them to pasta dishes that I make; but this time I wanted something that let the peppers be the main focus. I found this recipe searching online and got to cooking! The peppers with balsamic have such a wonderful flavor combination. The chicken was great too, although I might season it slightly less on the next go-round.
